Steven Naismith has failed to establish himself at Norwich
With the return of Glasgow Rangers to the Premiership, Scottish football could be on the cusp of a renaissance.
Joey Barton’s arrival at Ibrox has proven that the club are, and always have been, a huge draw within the game, and they should now focus their efforts on bringing in a prolific marksman who could potentially fire them to the league title in their return season.
Naismith would be a fantastic singing for Rangers
The ideal signing for the record 54-time Scottish League champions would be Norwich City’s Steven Naismith. The Scotland international spent five years at Rangers before his move to Everton in 2012, scoring 33 goals.
Since his move to Carrow Road, the 29-year-old has failed to make the impact expected of him, however, and managed just one goal in 13 Premier League appearances.
He would make a huge difference to the Rangers lineup, and could be used as an out-and-out striker, or in the number 10 role in tandem with Kenny Miller.
Naismith has failed to replicate his Everton form in his time a Carrow Road
Although Mark Warburton’s men impressed last term, and won promotion to the Premiership with ease, they will need to improve heavily on their playing staff, if they want to challenge for major honours this season. The addition of Naismith would give Ranger’s a new dimension, with the added threat of pace in their forward line, something they desperately lack.
Having only been at Norwich for six months, the East Anglian outfit would expect to recoup at least the £8 million they paid for Naismith, should they even consider selling him. Whether or not that kind of money is within Rangers financial realm is another matter, but should a move come to fruition, they will be in a far stronger position to challenge for the title.
