Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were linked with the 21-year-old last summer.

Martyn Waghorn’s future at Rangers seems far from certain.

Last month, The Bristol Post reported that Championship side Bristol City were interested in the English striker, who has one Premiership goal in 10 games.

If he does end up leaving then Mark Warburton will need a replacement, and should the Gers manager renew his interest in a man he reportedly wanted in the summer?

Rangers were linked with Hibernian hitman Jason Cummings prior to signing Joe Dodoo and Joe Garner, before the young striker extended his contract until 2020.

He has another three-and-a-half years to run on his existing deal but that isn’t to say that Hibs boss Neil Lennon would staunchly refuse to listen to any offers for him.

Cummings, who has netted eight times in nine starts for the Scottish Championship side, has not started a match for the Leith club in nearly two months.

In fact, he has not found the net since way back in September, and eight goals that early illustrates just how dangerous he is when he’s on form, but he might well be a little disillusioned with life under Lennon at the moment.

With 45 Championship goals under his belt since August 2014, he is clearly a very dangerous striker and one who might be the 25-goal-a-season man who Rangers will need if they are to keep up with Celtic next term.

Dodoo and Garner have shown potential, but would you put your house on either of them hitting those figures next season? Few would.

Of course, being prolific in that division doesn’t mean much in the Premiership, because Waghorn, who netted 20 times in Scotland’s second tier last term, has really struggled with the step up in class, but Cummings has been waiting for the big time for a while now.

Signing him in January will give him a nice five or six months to get used to the top flight in preparation for next season. The title is already gone for Rangers this time.

Hibernian, top of the Championship on goal difference, won’t like to lose him, but there is little that Lennon can do if Warburton lodges a very decent offer. Plus, the Easter Road club have done pretty well without him in the grand scheme of things.
