Glasgow Rangers should consider making an ambitious attempt to bring the Premier League ace to Ibrox in January.

In one of the more surprising transfer rumours of the summer, The Scottish Sun reported that Jermain Defoe was on Rangers’ radar with Steven Gerrard looking to bring the Bournemouth ace to Ibrox on loan.
Defoe would have been a remarkable addition for the Gers. While he is well into the twilight of his career, he has been lethal at almost every club he has been at and, according to Spotrac, he earns over £103,000-a-week at the Vitality Stadium, so the finances involved would have been a big hurdle for the Light Blues to overcome.
The move did not take place, of course, but perhaps Gerrard should still have a striker on his January wishlist, and should take note of comments that Defoe has made about one of his Cherries teammates.

Coming from Defoe, that is an incredible statement to make. And given that he is yet to start a Premier League game this season, it is a statement that should tempt Gerrard to make an ambitious loan bid for the striker in January.
It seems more than likely that Eddie Howe would have little interest in letting him leave, but if he is still struggling for game-time, the idea of sending him to Ibrox where he will be able to play in high-stakes games on a regular basis may appeal to the Bournemouth boss and to Mousset himself.

Rangers would be getting a powerful forward with serious potential who would make the Gers’ attacking options even more frightening, and importantly, give them the depth to battle on several fronts should they remain in the Europa League after Christmas.
Rangers still need to strengthen their ranks up front after missing out on Defoe, and perhaps their summer target’s comments should provide Gerrard with the inspiration regarding where to look next.
