Glasgow Rangers should perhaps target an ambitious loan move for the midfielder given that his manager is a former Ibrox hero.
Given Steven Gerrard’s links, it will have come as absolutely no surprise that a number of the players that Rangers have been linked with so far this summer all currently play for the same club.
The Scottish Sun recently reported that the new Gers boss had his eye on four Liverpool players this summer – including Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn – and his connections with the Reds arguably makes it seem a lot more plausible that Rangers may get a number of those deals across the line.
It is smart from Gerrard to target players he knows ahead of his first season at Ibrox, but it is not the only connection that the Scottish Premiership side should look to use this summer.
AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso is an extremely popular figure amongst the Rangers fans following his brief spell with the Gers which ended two decades ago, and the Light Blues should perhaps reach out to their former midfielder amid reports that he could consider loaning out one of the Serie A giant’s brightest talents.
Should loaning him out become Milan’s plan, then Gerrard should undoubtedly consider an ambitious bid as he could be a superb addition to Rangers’ options in the middle of the park, having made 21 appearances in Italy’s top flight this past year.
Locatelli is a hard-working, tough-tackling youngster who also loves to get on the ball and demonstrate his passing ability. He could tick a number of boxes for Gerrard given his versatility, and perhaps the Gattuso connection may just give Rangers an outside chance of getting something done should they decide to join the race.
