Ibrox club Rangers are likely to be busy in the January transfer window.

Graeme Murty, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Since being handed the permanent role of Rangers manager until the summer, talk has shifted from the future of Graeme Murty’s role in the Ibrox dugout to his involvement in the January transfer window.

The Gers have installed a director of football in Mark Allen and although he is expected to have significant power when it comes to signings, Murty is expected to have the final say on who comes in and who departs Ibrox.

Bruno Alves’ injury has highlighted a lack of depth at centre-back, with David Bates and Danny Wilson both in the final months of their contracts while Fabio Cardoso is reportedly interesting Portuguese side Estoril.

It should see 43-year-old boss Murty look to add a defender to his ranks at Ibrox before the close of the January transfer window, and West Ham United commander Reece Burke could be the perfect addition to his Rangers side.

The Daily Mirror claim in their transfer news blog (15:23) that no less than six Championship clubs are chasing the 21-year-old’s signature, with Sunderland, Derby County, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Bolton are all keen.

Burke has impressed at Bolton during the first half of the season, making 15 appearances for Phil Parkinson’s Trotters but it has temporary deal expired last week.

Standing at 6ft 3in, his aerial prowess is second to none. However, he also boasts the kind of speed required to keep up with the pace of the Scottish Premiership.

Playing him alongside the likes of Wilson or Alves would certainly boost Murty’s defence and help keep their Scottish Premiership opponents at bay. With the Gers lacking in any kind of transfer funds, a loan would be perfect for Murty.

Landing Burke on loan would be a huge boost to Rangers, if they can fend off competition from the sextet of Championship clubs.
