Rangers have long been touted as a potential suitor for Scottish midfielder Ryan Gauld as he has built up an impressive reputation in Portugal in recent years – and the Light Blues should hijack a reported bid from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps to sign the man once called ‘Baby Messi’ and bring him to Ibrox this summer.

Reports in Canada have suggested that the Caps have made an offer to sign Gauld after his Farense contract expired.

Gauld has just come off the back of a stellar season in Portugal as he impressed regularly for Farense before he was surprisingly left out of Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020.

The Gers have made no secret of the fact that they are in the market for a midfielder or three and bringing Gauld to Ibrox would add some real quality in midfield – while also adding another domestically trained player into the mix for European games.

The former Dundee United and Sporting star notched some impressive numbers as Farense were relgated, scoring nine goals and contibuting seven assists.

With his contract up in Portugal, the chance to return to Scotland and challenge for trophies at Ibrox would surely be tempting for Gauld – as well as helping him force his way into the national team’s plans.

While a move to MLS could see him land a hefty financial package to entice him across the Atlantic, the competitive factor of heading for Ibrox and playing in the Champions League would surely be a massive carrot.

Steven Gerrard may well have other targets in mind already but, with Gauld on a free, Rangers would be seriously missing a trick if they didn’t make an offer to the Scot.
