Celtic want the 21-year-old but should Glasgow Rangers’ next manager try bringing him to Ibrox instead?
The Scottish Sun reported on Wednesday that Celtic were confident of sealing a deal for highly-rated playmaker Lewis Morgan in January.
The 21-year-old is destined for bigger and better things than St Mirren it seems and has netted six goals and bagged three assists in 15 Premiership outings this season.
His star is rapidly on the rise and a move to Celtic makes sense for the Hoops – but Rangers could and should look to spoil that by trying to hijacking the move.
The Daily Record reported back in September that then Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha was keen on bringing him to Ibrox but it remains to be seen if the Portuguese’s sucessor – whoever that may be – renews an interest.
Aberdeen released a statement on Tuesday stating that they had denied the Gers’ request to speak to manager Derek McInnes over the vacant post.
Nevertheless, hijacking Celtic’s move for the youngster would make McInnes or somebody else an instant hero at Rangers if they were successful in signing him – and it shouldn’t be ruled out.
Although the Hoops are head and shoulders above everybody in Scotland, that status does not come without its complications and Morgan might well feel that his chances of first-team football are better at Rangers.
