The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, reportedly wanted the defender at Ibrox last year.

A player linked with a move to Rangers throughout the 2018/19 season will not be heading to Ibrox after signing a three-year deal elsewhere.
Mark Beevers emerged as a target for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers during last summer’s transfer window (Express) and again ahead of January (also Express).
And while there is nothing to suggest that Beevers had remained a Gers target, the Scottish side needn’t be concerned by his transfer to Peterborough United.
If anything they should be relieved that they didn’t waste money and squad space on a near 30-year-old player, who despite an impressive track record in England’s third tier, is seemingly on the decline after a season back in the Championship.
And that feeling could be increased if Rangers’ pursuit of a younger model, in the Oldham Athletic centre-back George Edmundson, proves successful.
As well as having eight years on Beevers, there is no doubting that Edmundson’s career is on an upward curve – having ended his first full season as a professional in League Two’s team of the year to alert higher division clubs at home and abroad.

And that is precisely the type of signing, as opposed to the likes of Mark Beevers, that Rangers should be making as they too try to reach their own maximum potential.
