Steven Gerrard has already brought one signing to Ibrox, but should Rangers fight Aberdeen for Naismith?

Steven Gerrard has already begun his recruitment process at Rangers by giving Mark Allen his blessing to complete the signing of Scott Arfield, and now he should consider rivalling Aberdeen for one of the Scottish Premiership’s best right-backs.
The Daily Record claim Derek McInnes’ side are interested in signing Ross County defender Jason Naismith, after proving to be a shining light in the Staggies’ relegation to the Championship.
The 23-year-old was involved in eight goals during Ross County’s 2017-18 campaign, scoring twice and laying on six assists – finding the back of the net against decent Hearts and Kilmarnock sides.

Naismith is set to leave Ross County in the next few weeks, with his contract set to expire on May 31. Available on a free, then, the one-time Scotland Under-21 international would be an excellent bargain buy for most top-flight sides.
James Tavernier remains the Gers’ undisputed right-back, though he has little cover with 26-year-old Lee Hodson hardly the calibre of player that Rangers currently require.

Naismith’s versatility, which allows him to play on the right side of midfield as well as in defence, would provide Gerrard with added cover out wide as well as the perfect back-up to Tavernier.
On a free, a small wage and with the majority of his career ahead of him, Naismith would be an excellent signing if the Gers can pip Aberdeen to the signing of the Scottish defender.
