Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should consider trying to bring Samed Yesil to Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has been linked with raiding his former club for players now he has been appointed as Rangers manager.
And while it is likely he may be able to bring one or two Liverpool players to Ibrox, it would make sense for him to look at ex-Reds too.
He reportedly did so with Rangers’ failed attempts to sign veteran Martin Skrtel. Perhaps he should be looking at the lower end of the age spectrum, like former Liverpool talent Samed Yesil.
Yesil was an early signing for Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers and arrived with an exciting reputation.
He was prolific at German youth level, scoring 20 goals in 22 for the under-17s and eight goals in 7 for the under-19s.
For Bayer Leverkusen’s under-19s he impressed too, scoring 21 in 30 games.
So what went wrong at Liverpool?
Yesil’s development was halted by a serious knee injury, and he was never given a proper first team opportunity.
After being released by Liverpool in 2016 he later signed with Greek side Panionos where he has relaunched his career.
Yesil is finally playing first team football, and at 23-years-old is aiming to make up for lost time.
Used mainly as a substitute for Panionos, Yesil scored eight goals last season, including three in Europa League qualifiers.
He is showing signs of getting back on track, and with a just year left on his contract he would come cheap for Rangers.
Better than Eduardo Herrera? You bet. He has just scratched the surface in terms of his huge potential and Rangers should consider taking a punt.
