Rangers are likely to be active in the January transfer window.

Two successive Scottish Premiership losses have highlighted many things that are missing from Rangers’ side as they bid to keep pace with Celtic, Aberdeen and Hibernian at the top of the table.

One of those key ingredients that the Gers are lacking in is drive and personal determination to do well for Rangers. At Celtic, they have the likes of Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor who have broken through the academy system.

They are boyhood Celtic fans and Rangers need that kind of passion in their side to take one step closer towards pulling their Old Firm rivals in. A move for West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison would be ideal, then.

Back in November 2011, Scotland international Morrison told the Daily Express that he eventually wanted to pull on a Light Blue shirt after growing up watching the likes of Paul Gascoigne and Brian Laudrup shine for the Gers.

“I could definitely see myself playing in Scotland. I’m a bit of a Rangers man so it would be nice to play there one day,” Morrison said six years ago. “One day in the future, who knows.”

Fast forward six years and a 31-year-old Morrison is struggling for game time at the Hawthorns, making just four Premier League appearances all season.

A knee problem has seen him ruled out of the Baggies’ last six matches, with the Midlands outfit gaining just two points from a possible 18 and eventually resulted in the sacking of manager Tony Pulis.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan talks with James Morrison during the EURO 2016 Group D qualifying match between Scotland and Gibraltar at Hamden Park on March 29, 2015 in Glasgow Scotland.

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Morrison could be looking for a fresh new chapter in his playing career, with just a matter of months before his contract expires in June. That will see him become available on a free for Rangers in January on a pre-contract basis.

Known for his long-range shots, intricate array of passing and fiery desire in the middle of the park, Morrison would be the missing ingredient needed in Rangers’ cauldron.

With Morrison likely to be available on the cheap if the Gers want him to join in January, his love of Rangers would make him the perfect signing if the Ibrox club could lure him to Glasgow.
