Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should do a u-turn on their reported deal to bring Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke to the Scottish Premiership.

England's forward Dominic Solanke celebrates his goal during the U-20 World Cup semi-final football match between England and Italy in Jeonju on June 8, 2017.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are likely to sign Dominic Solanke in January.

The Liverpool striker hasn’t kicked a ball for the Premier League giants in any competition this season, and it looks like Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants him on loan.

But should the Gers manager set his sights on somebody a bit more long term?

The 21-year-old remains a very big talent in English football in spite of his low-profile season and let’s face it, the Ibrox club won’t be signing him permanently irrespective of his form from January to May.

They won’t be able to afford the England Under-21 star – who also earns £25,000 per week on Merseyside [Silly Season] – so why not look at a long-term solution instead?

Rangers already have five players on loan and Gerrard will want three of those – probably Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent, both on loan from Liverpool, and Lassana Coulibaly – on a permanent basis.

Gerrard might be an iconic figure in the Anfield club’s history, but are they going to just give him three of their best young players next summer? It will cost a lot.

The 38-year-old should pull the plug on any deal to bring Solanke to Glasgow and focus on signing a goalscorer who will not only help the Blues to bigger and better things, but one who won’t be gone within five months of arriving.

He might not be Liverpool standard, but Solanke is certainly Premier League standard and there is very little chance of him staying in Scotland beyond next summer.
