Simon Grayson may have been sacked as the Sunderland manager after a run of disappointing results in the Championship, but that should not detract Rangers from at least considering him as Pedro Caixinha’s permanent successor.
Rangers are yet to appoint a new permanent manager, and the Scottish giants should at least consider the prospect of Grayson taking charge of the first team.
True, it would be a left-field appointment, but the 47-year-old Englishman would suit the Gers’ current needs perfectly.
The Gers are in the process of rebuilding their team, and it will take a fair few years for the Ibrox outfit to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.
Grayson was a success at Leeds United and at Preston North End where he was given time and afforded patience.
Rangers need to appoint a manager for the long haul, someone who can build a team and make them competitive in the coming years.
Grayson may not have any direct link to Rangers, but the former Sunderland and Huddersfield Town manager could bring some good players from England.
The likes of Derek McInnes, David Moyes, Alan Pardew and Alex McLeish may have better pedigree, but Rangers should at least consider Grayson.
