Glasgow Rangers have made a second bid to try and bring Greg Docherty to Ibrox this month.

According to a report from STV, Rangers have made a second bid for Greg Docherty after the Gers’ £350,000 offer for the Hamilton Academical midfielder was rejected.

STV reports that the Light Blues’ latest bid for the 21-year-old is in excess of £500,000 – but it is not currently known whether Accies have accepted the bid from their Scottish Premiership rivals.

If this latest offer, or any subsequent bid, proves to be successful and Rangers manage to bring Docherty in this month, surely it would be a smart idea for Graeme Murty to consider abandoning the club’s reported pursuit of Emerson Hyndman.

The Sun reported earlier this month that Rangers are interested in bringing Hyndman in for a second loan spell, but surely there have got to be question marks regarding whether it would still be worth targeting the Bournemouth ace if they manage to land Docherty.

With Docherty through the door – if a deal happens – Murty will have no shortage of midfielders to pick from , so bringing another midfielder in on loan may not be the best idea as Hyndman may be set for a frustrating spell, or he will keep a player permanently on Rangers’ books out of the side.

If the Gers have any sense that they may be able to bring Hyndman in on a permanent basis at some stage in the future, then pursuing a deal this month undoubtedly makes a lot of sense as he would definitely improve the squad.

However, if Bournemouth are adamant that they will only listen to loan bids for the American, Rangers would surely be better off, in the long run, sticking with the options they have, potentially including Docherty, and giving them a chance to flourish during the second-half of the campaign.
