Rangers have brought winger Sheyi Ojo to Ibrox on a season-long loan deal.

Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo has told the Glasgow Evening Times that the Liverpool staff have high hopes for him, hinting his long-term future remains at Anfield.

The Gers had already signed Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones, but decided to add another winger last week by securing Ojo’s signature.

Steven Gerrard called in another favour from former club Liverpool, having landed Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent on loan from the Reds last summer.

Whilst Ejaria flopped and returned to Liverpool in December, Kent became a star at Ibrox, and could still return to Rangers this summer alongside Ojo.

After frustrating loan spells with Fulham and Stade Reims, Ojo needs to shine now, and at 22, needs to start showing more than flashes of his ability.

Ojo is essentially fighting for his Liverpool future in a Rangers shirt, but has admitted that Liverpool staff have ‘high hopes’ for him moving forward, hinting that his long-term future may be with Liverpool rather than Rangers.

“Touch wood I don’t get any injuries I will have a very good season,” said Ojo. “Whenever I speak to the staff at Liverpool they all have high hopes for me. It is just about getting that consistent season under my belt and take it from there,” he added.

Sheyi Ojo of Liverpool runs during a pre-season friendly match between Bury and Liverpool at Gigg Lane on July 14, 2018 in Bury, England.

Loans without purchase options can always be a risk, and that’s what Rangers have signed up for again with Ojo, just as they did with Kent a year ago.

Ojo has admitted that he loves Rangers already, meaning that there may well be a chance of the winger joining permanently next summer, but the Gers are in a difficult position; if he struggles, Rangers won’t want him permanently anyway, and if he impresses, his value will skyrocket and Rangers may not be able to afford him, just like Kent.

For now, Rangers just need to try and get the best out of Ojo this coming season, but the chances of him being at Ibrox for the long-term already appear a little slim.
