The Rangers winger, Serge Atakayi, has taken a significant step on the road to recovery.

Atakayi was injured just 17 minutes into his Rangers debut against Motherwell last November, and later underwent surgery in London after being spotted wearing a leg brace and using crutches.

Earlier this month, the DR Congo-born Finland youth international vowed, in his native French, that “it will not be long until I return”.

And Atakayi added the following image to his Instagram story on Friday afternoon, alongside the caption, “first time outside running”.

Rangers have been without Jamie Murphy for several months and look like having to wait until the summer transfer window to register Jamie Jones, the Kilmarnock winger they recently agreed a pre-contract deal to sign.

Atakayi’s return would therefore be a welcome boost to the Ibrox manager, Steven Gerrard.
