Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has warned Rangers they won’t land striker Jonson Clarke-Harris on the cheap this summer.
The Light Blues are one of a number of clubs linked with a move for the Posh star this summer but Fry insists any bids will need to be a “good offer” to convice the London Road side to sell up ahead of their promotion to the Championship.
With the Gers having already signed Fashion Sakala and Nnamdi Ofoborh, the Scottish champions clearly aren’t wasting their time in getting their business done this summer, but Fry wasn’t shy about telling clubs they’ll need to cough up for the Posh’s prized asset, telling Football Transfer Tavern: “Do I expect bids for Jonson Clarke-Harris? Yes I do. Will they be enough? I don’t know.
“Because we don’t want to go up to the Championship and be also-rans, we want to go up to the Championship and stay there and progress further, so it’ll have to be a good offer.”
Striker would face a tough task to get into the Rangers team – 33 goals or not
Clarke-Harris scored 33 times last season for Peterborough but at 26, is going to be expecting regular action at Rangers.
With the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Kemar Roofe ahead of him, Clarke-Harris would have a massive fight on his hands to force his way into the Rangers side.
Despite his impressive record at League One level, performing regularly against English third-tier sides is a whole different proposition to doing it for Rangers – just ask Greg Docherty.
