Rangers were linked with bringing Khalid Aucho to Ibrox in 2016.

Rangers’ summer transfer business saw them bring in players from Croatia, France and Italy, but they could yet cast their net further afield.

The Gers brought in 15 summer signings but will already be preparing for the January transfer window, and may look to Africa for new additions.

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr – formerly of Kilmarnock – confirmed on Twitter last week that Rangers will be sending scouts to watch the Kenyan side in action in their friendly against Everton in November.

The friendly gives Rangers a chance to run the rule over the top talent Gor Mahia have to offer – and will remind fans of a bizarre transfer saga from 2016.

Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho became a prominent figure for Rangers in the 2016 summer transfer market, as it all started when a Gor Mahia official told Goal that Aucho was heading to Rangers for a trial.

Aucho then confirmed talks and even suggested that a move was a matter of time, before the move went quiet and he ended up on trial with Scottish rivals Aberdeen instead.

Then-manager Mark Warburton even told The Telegraph that he was being linked with players he had never even heard of, with many believing that he was referring to Aucho.

Since then, 25-year-old Aucho has moved on to Baroka in South Africa, Red Star Belgrade and OFK Belgrade in Serbia and East Bengal in India, with his career taking as many bizarre turns as the Rangers transfer saga two years ago.

Rangers will now hope to have better experiences with Gor Mahia this time around, and fans will be praying there isn’t another Aucho-like situation.
