Rangers have hit out at the Scottish FA after being hit with a triple blow ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup clash with St. Johnstone after bans meted out to five Rangers players were upheld after an appeal by the club.
The players – Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey, Bongani Zungu, Brian Kinnear and Dapo Mebude – were issued six-game bans for breaching Covid regulations in February.
Patterson, Bassey and Zungu will now miss the Gers’ next four games, with a further two suspended, while Kinnear and Mebude will have to sit out for their respective loan clubs.
Rangers admitted their disappointment in the outcome of the appeals and believe it “highlights the inconsistency of decision making in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.”
The Ibrox side have urged the SFA to look at how other FA’s have handled Covid breaches as they blasted the disciplinary process at Hampden.
We remain disappointed in the result,” Rangers said in a statement on the club’s website. “Furthermore, we believe this outcome highlights the inconsistency of decision-making in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.

“We are cognisant that the approach taken by other football associations across Europe has no resemblance to that of the Scottish FA. We urge the Scottish FA to be open-minded to learn from other football authorities.”
