Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hinted that Scott Wright could retain his place in the starting XI for this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie with St. Johnstone at Ibrox – with the Gers boss hailing the winger as a “model professional.”
Wright has impressed fans when called up since his deadlie day move from Aberdeen and scored the opener in the 1-1 draw with the Saints on Wednesday night.
With the sides meeting again in the Cup on Sunday, Gerrard has been impressed with how Wright has committed himself as he looks to cement a regular place in the starting XI.
“Scott has done everything he has been asked to do, whether that be in the gym, whether that’s to do with his diet or whether it’s on the training pitch. Gerrard told Rangers TV.
“Certainly in games, in terms of taking information on, he has been a model professional.
“He’s shown a real good impact from the bench so far. One of the games he started against Cove and again the other night, he’s shown in flashes why we wanted him here.
“He’s exciting, he’s quick, he can create, he can score. He’s one that is a work in progress and very excited to have him here and he’s certainly pushing for a starting place at the weekend.”
