Scott Arfield of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers is being lauded on Twitter.

Scott Arfield of Rangers (C), is congratulated by Alfredo Morelos after scoring a goal in the second half of the game during the Pre-Season Friendly between Rangers and Bury at Ibrox...

Rangers will be getting Scott Arfield back a little sooner than expected.

The Gers midfielder impressed in the early hours of the morning but his performance wasn’t enough to prevent Canada from being eliminated in the Gold Cup following a quarter-final defeat by Haiti.

The Canadians went 2-0 ahead but ultimately lost 3-2, but the Rangers star certainly covered himself in glory.

One of the reasons why his country went two up was because of Arfield himself. On 28 minutes, Arfield, one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings at Ibrox, executed a brilliant dummy to deceive his marker, before playing a wonderful pass for Lucas Cavallini who rounded the goalkeeper and added a second.

It was a moment of brilliance from the 30-year-old – who was born in Livingston – and here’s how Twitter reacted.

The good news from Rangers’ perspective is that Arfield will return to Glasgow earlier than expected, given that Canada were favourites to move into the last four of the competition.

The former Burnley ace, who joined the light Blues last summer, scored 12 goals in his first season back in Scotland.
