The international break is coming to an end, and one Rangers player enjoyed a quite remarkable night some 3,000 miles away from Glasgow.

Midfielder Scott Arfield was featuring over in Toronto, as he and his Canadian teammates took on the United States, seeking to beat their neighbours for the first time in 34 years.

In a dramatic night at Toronto’s BMO Field, Canada proved to be more than a match for USA, and Arfield played a huge role in the opening goal by putting a superb ball across goal for Alphonso Davies to score.

Canada edged closer and closer to a simply historic result, and sealed the win in added time as Lucas Cavallini smashed the ball past Zack Steffen to spark wild scenes.

Canada are taking huge steps forward under boss John Herdman, and beating USA is the statement win this exciting side have been looking for after some fine recent form.

Youngsters Davies and Jonathan David understandably steal much of the limelight, but experienced playmaker Arfield plays a key role too, putting in the hard yards whilst being productive in the final third, just as he has been with Rangers.

The 30-year-old was born in Scotland, but having been overlooked by his home country, he chose to represent Canada instead – and as captain, he’s surely happy with his decision.

Arfield was hailed on Twitter for his performance last night, with Canada fans praising him for ‘running the show’, with his display describes as ‘phenomenal’ and ‘absolutely immense’.

Others called him ‘a beast’ and ‘a man possessed’, laughing at Scotland for not capping him as he led Canada towards a memorable victory.
