The Glasgow Rangers ace midfielder has impressed in Steven Gerrard’s setup since his move to Ibrox last summer.
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has spoken of how important it is to represent the Ibrox club off the pitch as well as on it.
The 30-year-old has been a success since his move to Gers from Burnley in May last year, getting 10 goals and seven assists in just 25 Scottish Premiership games this term according to Transfermarkt.
Arfield has been linked with a return to the Premier League over the past few days, with Southampton and Crystal Palace said to be keen on the Scotland-born Canada international amid talk of a potential £3million move (Herald Scotland).
However, the player stresses that he has no intention of heading back across the border this summer as he looks to bring success to Ibrox as part of Steven Gerrard’s squad and hopefully bring the title back to the blue side of Glasgow.
Not all of Gerrard’s summer signings have had such an impact at Ibrox as Arfield has and he admits it’s not just about performing on matchdays and in training but also the general conduct and attitude off the pitch, understanding that some simply cannot handle it.
“Personally, I think the off-field aspect is probably bigger than the on field,” Arfield is quoted by Herald Scotland as saying.
“The demand off the pitch. The expectation off the pitch. How you carry yourself. That’s as what you do on the pitch. I’ve absolutely loved it. I can understand why some players can’t handle it.”
Up next for Rangers is Sunday’s Scottish Premiership game against Hibernian, then the Old Firm derby at Ibrox the following Sunday, and finally the trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday 19 May.
