Rangers may be looking to exploit the pre-contract agreement market in January, but West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone hasn’t covered himself in glory.
January 1st is nearly here and Rangers have the ability to sign players in England to pre-contract agreements.
English clubs can’t do that, leaving the Gers in a strong position to pick up some bargains.
Last week, TEAMtalk reported that Rangers are considering a pre-contract offer to West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and West Ham United are also keen on Johnstone, but can’t offer pre-contract deals.
Johnstone is out of contract in the summer and currently has no plans to stay at West Brom.
Rangers seemingly view the 28-year-old as a potential heir to Allan McGregor, but his recent mistake may leave some worried.
West Brom lost 1-0 at Derby County on Monday, with Johnstone sadly involved in the crucial goal.

A long ball forward caused indecision between Johnstone and Cedric Kipre. Johnstone appeared to be staying at home, so Kipre nodded the ball in his direction.
Unfortunately for West Brom, Johnstone had decided at the last second to come and deal with it, so Kipre’s header just hit him, allowing Colin Kazim-Richards to score the winner.
Every goalkeeper has these moments, but Rangers won’t want to see many more of them as they consider signing the former Manchester United man.
