Rangers properly start the Giovanni van Bronckhorst era against Sparta Prague tonight – and Roy Makaay has a message for the Gers squad.
The Gers appointed Van Bronckhorst a week ago having seen Steven Gerrard leave Ibrox for Aston Villa.
Van Bronckhorst watched on as Rangers were beaten 3-1 by Hibernian on Sunday in a torrid performance.
Tonight, Van Bronckhorst takes charge of Rangers for the first time against Sparta Prague.
Rangers have posted a video of players in training, gearing up for this game – and fans may have spotted one moment with Roy Makaay.
Makaay has joined Van Bronckhorst’s coaching staff having worked together at Feyenoord.
Having also played together at Feyenoord and with the Dutch national team, Makaay is a trusted lieutenant of Van Bronckhorst.
Makaay has been working with the Rangers squad this week and had a message for them.
As Rangers players were doing a rondo drill, Makaay urged them to avoid tricks and flicks in tight situation, instead urging the simply option.
‘Play it simple, tricks are for the circus!” said Makaay.
Some fans think that was a dig at Ryan Kent, but it didn’t really look that way.
Given everything Makaay achieved in his career, Rangers players would be wise to pay attention to what he says.
