Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has been delighted with the emergence of Nathan Patterson as a bona-fide first-team player at Ibrox in recent weeks – and now wants the Gers’ Academy to produce even more talent for Steven Gerrard’s first-team.
Patterson has been thrust into the side with James Tavernier on the sidelines, putting in a string of impressive performances and netting goals against Royal Antwerp and Cove Rangers as he grabbed his opportunity with both hands.
With the Gers looking at their strongest on and off the pitch in a long time, Wilson wants to see more young Gers follow Patterson’s path into the first-team at Ibrox.
Alongside Academy chief Craig Mulholland, Wilson spoke of the “constant evolution” within the youth set-up with Patterson now the poster boy for his contemporaries at Auchenhowie.
“We’re constantly evolving how we work at the Academy and we’ve been delighted with the emergence of Nathan Patterson,” Wilson said speaking to Rangers TV.
“He’s shown his quality a lot in recent weeks and we want our Academy to produce even more.
“Craig, myself, and everyone in the Academy are working towards that and everything we wrap around the team.”
