Glasgow Rangers are gearing up for a crucial campaign as Steven Gerrard seeks to bring silverware back to Ibrox this term.
Glasgow Rangers director Stewart Robertson has given his honest opinion regarding the Ibrox future of Steven Gerrard and reported interest in the Gers manager from other clubs (Herald Scotland).
The Liverpool and England legend joined the Light Blues last summer and had a bright debut season in management, with definite progress being shown by the famous club on and off the pitch.
Although they were unable to deny their Old Firm rivals from winning the domestic treble once again, two derby victories at Ibrox are testament to how the two teams are becoming more and more evenly matched as time goes on.
This summer, Rangers have considerably bolstered their ranks and there is real optimism amongst the Bears that the Ibrox club could once again get their hands on silverware this season, in particular the Scottish Premiership title.
Earlier this summer, Gerrard was linked with the managerial roles at Derby County and Newcastle United, though both have since been filled and Robertson has made it clear that “everybody is very happy with the situation” in terms of the dugout.
“Steven still has three years left on his deal and he is very, very happy at Rangers,” Robertson told Herald Scotland. “It has worked well for both parties. As things stand at the moment, everybody is very happy with the situation.”
When asked whether having suitors is a compliment to Gerrard, he replied: “Absolutely. I think people recognise the change he has made to the club. With his presence as well and what he has been in world football, it’s only natural that that’s going to happen. It’s a compliment to Steven.”
