Rangers are reportedly keen on luring defender Curtis Nelson to Ibrox.
Curtis Nelson of Plymouth Argyle
According to the Plymouth Herald, Rangers have registered an interest in signing Plymouth Argyle defender Curtis Nelson during this summer’s transfer window.
The Gers have been active so far, signing midfielders Joey Barton and Jordan Rossiter this summer, whilst Accrington duo Matt Crooks and Josh Windass will join up with the club soon having penned pre-contract agreements back in January.
Now though, manager Mark Warburton must look to strengthen other areas of his team, with defence a particularly area of concern after some struggles at the back this past season.

It’s now claimed by the Plymouth Herald that Rangers are keen on Plymouth Argyle ace Curtis Nelson, but just who is Mark Warburton’s latest transfer target?
Nelson, 23, is a centre back who was originally on the books at Stoke City before heading to Plymouth in 2009, and he’s established himself as one of the top young defenders in the Football League ever since.

Despite being just 6ft, Nelson has impressed at centre back and has a strong enough leap to negate his lack of height for the position, whilst he’s also quick across the ground.
Nelson also has one cap for England’s Under-18’s, and has now racked up almost 250 appearances for Plymouth, despite only just turning 23 last month.
Nelson is clearly a huge talent, but whether he’s right for Rangers is another matter. The Gers have two decent centre backs in Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson, but what Warburton really needs to find is a veteran presence at the back who can keep the back line together when the pressure is on.

Whilst Nelson has bags of experience for his age, most of that has come in League One or League Two, and Warburton may be looking for somebody to come in and lead his defence from the moment they sign for the club – much like Joey Barton will for the Rangers midfield.
Nelson, who is out of contract this summer, would be a promising player for the Gers, but may not be quite what Rangers need right now, unless he wants to head to Ibrox as a third or fourth choice defender, which may not be in his plans this summer.
