Rangers are interested in signing Heart of Midlothian defender Callum Paterson in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record.

Paterson is out of contract at Hearts in the summer, and Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers want to sign the right-back on a free transfer, according to the report.

The 22-year-old is recovering from cruciate ligament damage, but the Gers have reportedly enquired about his availability.

Good move?

Paterson is a good right-back, and given that he is only 22 years of age, he can only improve and develop in the coming years.

The Scotland international has a lot of experience in the Scottish Premiership, and he would be a brilliant signing for Rangers.

Impact on James Tavernier?

James Tavernier is the first-choice right-back at Rangers at the moment, but the 22-year-old has not had a great season for the Gers.

If Rangers sign Paterson in the summer transfer window, then it would mean stiff competition for Tavernier for a place in the Rangers starting lineup next season.
