Rangers have been linked with bringing Andre Gray to Ibrox.

The Scottish Premiership season isn’t over quite yet, but with the end in sight, transfer rumours are gathering real pace.

Rangers have already secured three summer signings, with Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis all arriving on free transfers, but more additions are expected.

With Kyle Lafferty seemingly set to leave, Rangers are expected to target a striker, despite still having loanee Jermain Defoe and hothead Alfredo Morelos.

Remarkably, Rangers are being linked with a huge move, as the Glasgow Evening Times report that Watford’s Andre Gray is wanted on a season-long loan.

Gray, 27, has hit nine goals for Watford this season, making 16 starts in all competitions as well as 16 substitute appearances, coming in and out of the side at Vicarage Road.

A loan move would be a huge coup for Rangers, and one man who is a huge fan of Gray is his former Brentford boss Mark Warburton, who of course used to manage Rangers too.

Gray hit 18 goals in 50 games under Warburton having been lured from Luton Town, and speaking in 2014, Warburton suggested to Sky Sports that Gray’s unpredictability makes him so hard to defend, backing him for a huge career – and he would no doubt back him for success at Rangers as a result.

“I think sometimes he doesn’t know what he’s going to do let alone defenders and that’s the secret for him, he takes a chance, he takes a risk,” said Warburton. “When you think he was playing Conference football last year it speaks volumes for his character. He can go to the Premier League, I’ve got no doubts about that,” he added.

Warburton was right about that last part, as Gray went on to Burnley, and then earned a huge £18.5million move to Watford in 2017 (Guardian). He would be some coup for Rangers given his Premier League status, and he would arrive with Warburton’s seal of approval, which may mean more to some Rangers fans than others.
