Rangers will hope that one of their alleged target’s admiration of the Gers’ manager could work in their favour, if reports of their interest are accurate.
The Star claims Rangers are one of three clubs keen on the Sheffield United midfielder, John Lundstram, along with West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lundstram was one of the Premier League’s unexpected success stories last season, scoring five goals and setting up three in 34 games for the Blades.
But the player who struggled to command a regular first-team place in the Championship is now in the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane and has yet to accept the club’s offer of a renewal, admitted the Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder on Thursday.
Rangers, meanwhile, are in the market for another central midfielder, according to Wilder’s Ibrox counterpart, Steven Gerrard.
And any offer from the blue half of Glasgow is sure to tempt Lundstram, the Liverpool native who played for Everton despite his allegiance to the city’s more storied club.

“Steven Gerrard was my role model,” the 26-year-old told The Times last year. “To see a local lad playing in Liverpool’s first team was something that every young Scouser wanted to be.”
