It has been reported that Hibernian have opened talks with Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers over the signing of winger Murphy in the summer transfer window.
Rangers are prepared to offload the 31-year-old Scottish winger this summer, according to the report.
Underwhelming Rangers spell
While Murphy did well during his loan spell at Rangers from Brighton and Hove Albion, he has struggled since the move was made permanent.
The Scotsman suffered a cruciate knee injury back in August 2018 – as reported by The Scottish Sun – and since his recover, he struggled to get back into the team, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton Albion in England.
Rangers exit sensible?
It is hard to see Murphy establish himself as an important player in the current Rangers team, especially as manager Steven Gerrard has the likes of Ryan Kent, Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones to call upon.
It would make sense for the Scottish winger – described as “a special player” by Burton defender John Brayford on the club’s official website in February 2020 – to move to Hibernian and play regular first-team football.
