Rangers may be about to face a summer transfer battle with Inter Milan amid claims from FCInterNews suggesting Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu is a target for the Serie A leaders.

Steven Gerrard may have spent the best part of two decades doing battle with Sir Alex Ferguson but, since hanging up his boots and stepping into the dugout, the Liverpool legend has displayed similarities with his old enemy.

The sweet smell of champagne was still filling the Ibrox air when Gerrard insisted there was “more to come”. Like the legendary Ferguson, the Rangers boss is determined to build on his success, immediately turning his attention to the next title after securing his first one.

Beating Inter Milan to one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers would certainly be one way to begin a title defence.

Voetbal24 claims Rangers have been watching Belgium U21 international Amuzu since summer 2020 and, despite seeing an approach batted away by Anderlecht a few months ago, are expected to renew their interest.

Hailed for his vast potential and twinkling technical ability by RSCA coach Vincent Kompany, Amuzu has been compared to Gerrard’s former Liverpool teammate Raheem Sterling back home in Belgium.

And, according to reports in Italy, the Ghana-born 21-year-old is also a summer target for an Inter side that has overtaken bitter rivals AC Milan at the top of the Serie A table.

Anderlecht, meanwhile, are expected to demand about £7 million – a fee that would make Amuzu one of the most expensive additions in Rangers’ history.

Then again, as Ferguson himself would attest, there’s no time to catch your breath, even when you’ve reached the top of the mountain.
