Rangers are reportedly interested in re-signing St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Celtic and Rangers are both in the race to sign St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan during the January transfer window, possibly handing the Gers the chance to correct a mistake.

Morgan, 20, has hit 17 goals in 87 games for St Mirren since joining the club from Rangers back in 2013, including six goals in 11 games this term having made a blistering start to the campaign.

Those exploits have unsurprisingly triggered major interest, with Celtic and Rangers just two of the clubs to register an interest in his signature ahead of the January transfer window.

Whilst Celtic, as Scottish Premiership champions with Champions League football to offer, may be considered as the favourites for his signature, a move to Ibrox may be a case of offering unfinished business for Morgan.

Morgan started his career in the youth ranks with Rangers, but was allowed to leave in 2013 in order to join St Mirren, where he has shown just what the Gers are missing out on.

Now, with Morgan’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Rangers could offer him the chance to return to Ibrox more than four years since his exit, and fill the hole out wide left by Barrie McKay’s summer move to Nottingham Forest.

This isn’t a rare move; Manchester United saw Paul Pogba leave the youth ranks at Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012 before completing a then-world-record return last summer, whilst Rangers themselves moved to sign Andy Halliday in 2015, nine years after letting him leave their youth team.

Morgan can now follow suit, allowing Rangers to correct their mistake in letting him leave in the first place, but Pedro Caixinha’s men will have to fight hard to beat the competition to sign him.
