Ryan Hardie and Jordan Thompson have been reunited at Bloomfield Road after playing together for Rangers and Livingston.

Two former Rangers youngsters are set to play side by side once again next season.

A year ago, Jordan Thompson’s time at Ibrox came to an end. Despite some impressive performances at youth team level, the Northern Irish midfielder for some reason failed to make the grade and joined Blackpool when his contract expired.

12 months on, however, Thompson is set to be joined at Bloomfield Road by a striker he knows very well.

After all, he and Ryan Hardie not only came through the ranks together at Rangers, they also formed a deadly partnership during a loan spell at Livingston as the West Lothian outfit sealed their return to the Premiership in 2018.

Now, with Hardie joining Blackpool on a permanent basis after slipping down the pecking order in Glasgow, the two 22-year-olds are set to become team-mates for the third time.

“I’m looking forward to meeting him again,” Hardie told the Blackpool Gazette. “I’ve had a few chats with him over the last few weeks and he’s still the same old Jordan. I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get in and see the boys.

“It’s good coming down where you already know somebody and he should be able to help me integrate with the boys really well.

“I’m sure he will be looking for me on the pitch like we used to do because we used to link up really well.”

Blackpool can only benefit from an almost telepathic understanding between two players who have an excellent relationship both on and off the pitch.

And while some at Ibrox might have wondered whether releasing Thompson was a mistake, given how impressive he was last season while forcing his way into international reckoning for the Northern Ireland, this Rangers reject could be even better in 2019/20 with his old sparring partner thriving alongside him.
