Rangers star Ianis Hagi looks set to miss out on playing at this year’s Olympics in Japan, according to reports, with the Romanian refused permission to link up with his national team later this summer.
Romania are in a group with New Zealand, South Korea and Honduras for this summer’s Games with Hagi initially named in the pool of players selected by manager Mirel Radoi.
According to the Daily Record though, Rangers have refused to allow Hagi to be included with the Olympics not an official FIFA date.
The Ibrox number 7 would almost certainly have missed the start of the Gers’ Champions League qualifying campaign had he been involved in the Olympics – and with Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe both suspended, losing Hagi as well would have left the Light Blues short of bodies.
Rangers enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round stage with the first leg on August 3/4 – the same day as the semi-finals of the Olympics football tournament with the final on August 7.

Even if Romania were to be knocked out at the group stage that would leave only a matter of days for the Gers to get him up to speed ahead of the Champions League getting underway.
