Ralph Hasenhuttl won’t become the new Rangers manager with the Austrian planning to take a break from football after leaving Southampton.

The Gers are back in the hunt for a manager having sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday morning.

The Dutchman has gone with Rangers dumped out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion and now nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Just over a year since having to replace Steven Gerrard, Rangers are back in the market for a manager once again.

Ralph Hasenhuttl won’t become the new Rangers manager

A host of names have already been linked with the job as Michael Beale appears to be pulling away as the clear favourite.

Others have been suggested with Ralph Hasenhuttl mentioned.

Hasenhuttl worked alongside now-Rangers director of football Ross Wilson at Southampton and some have wondered whether they could reunite.

Hasenhuttl is out of work having been sacked as Southampton boss earlier this month, bringing an end to almost four years in the job.

However, the Daily Record report that Hasenhuttl isn’t in contention because he is planning to take a break from football.

Hasenhuttl is a very emotional manager and puts so much into the job, so four years at Southampton has understandably taken a lot out of him.

The 55-year-old will now take a period of rest before eventually returning to management down the line.

Hasenhuttl would have been a pretty exciting choice for Rangers given his high-intensity style on and off the pitch.

Once branded ‘the Alpine Klopp’ in comparison to the Liverpool boss, Hasenhuttl fared well at Ingolstadt and RB Leipzig in Germany before heading to Southampton.

The chance to rejoin Wilson may have appealed but Hasenhuttl is putting himself first by resting for a while, leaving Rangers to look elsewhere for their new manager.
