Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have been linked with John McGinn from their Scottish Premiership rivals.

Steven Davis of Rangers celebrates after scoring during the Clydesdale Bank Premier League match between Rangers and Hearts at Ibrox Stadium on May 7, 2011 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sky Sports claim that Steven Gerrard is interested in bringing Steven Davis back to Rangers this summer.

The 33-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract with Southampton next summer, previously spent four years at Ibrox.

Bringing in Davis would add to Rangers’ increasing list of central midfielders and it seems unlikely that Gerrard will retain an interest in John McGinn if the 101-cap Northern Irishman signs.

The Scottish Sun reported last month that the Gers were keen on the Hibernian star but, with Jordan Rossiter, Scott Arfield, Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Greg Docherty, Ovie Ejaria and Andy Halliday still in Glasgow, there is hardly room for Davis and McGinn.

Therefore, it seems logical that Gerrard has given up on the £5 million-rated ace in favour of going after the Southampton veteran.

Signing Ejaria on loan from Liverpool was already an indication that Gerrard had conceded defeat regarding McGinn, given they operate in a similar position, but the addition of Davis, another central midfielder, would effectively confirm as much.
