Rangers are coming into form ahead of their clash with Celtic.

Not since the beginning of Rangers’ first season in the Premiership has there been so much optimism at Ibrox.

After a rollercoaster 18 months under Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha, unlikely hero Graeme Murty has stepped in to steady the ship.

Previously unbeatable Celtic suddenly look a tiny bit vulnerable and Rangers fans are beginning to dream of beating them.

Ever since their 5-1 loss (the first one) Rangers have taken on their rivals with hope rather than belief.

Now the Gers’ tails are up and the gap at the top is just six points.

Celtic have a game in hand due to this evening’s postponement, but simply seeing the gap be closer is enough to help Rangers feel they have more of a chance of toppling Brendan Rodgers’ side.

And it is this belief and renewed optimism at Rangers which will make it even sweeter if Celtic win.

It’s why the 5-1 victory was such a big moment, not just because of the margin of the win, but because it represented Celtic stamping on Rangers’ dreams.

It has to be good for Celtic that Rangers look half decent once again.

Where’s the fun in hollow victories?

When the two teams meet in early March, if Celtic win, the result will mean so much more to both sets of supporters, and feel all the more sweeter.
