Glasgow Rangers can take a major step towards the knockout stages if they better their result from last time out at Ibrox.

Rangers could put one foot in the knockout stages of the Europa League on Thursday with a win away at Spartak Moscow. Steven Gerrard’s men go into the trip to Russia off the back of a much-needed victory at the weekend.

It was Daniel Candeias who provided the moment of magic that set the Gers on their way to three points at St Mirren. The Portuguese was initially left on the bench by Gerrard as Eros Grezda was handed his first start.

But with Grezda enduring a difficult afternoon on Saturday and Candeias suspended for the weekend’s clash against Motherwell following his incredibly controversial red card, it seems more than likely that the latter will return to the starting lineup for the clash in Otkritie Arena.

Meanwhile, there may also be a change in defence. Joe Worrall has performed well for much of his loan spell, but has struggled slightly in recent weeks and Gerrard should be tempted to hand the centre-back a rest.

£2 million summer signing Nikola Katic has had to bide his time in recent weeks, but deserves another opportunity in the side while Andy Halliday has arguably shown enough to keep Jon Flanagan out of the team for the time-being.

The midfield trio of Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria started at St Mirren and arguably remain the best three options available to Gerrard with Lassana Coulibaly struggling for form right now.
