Glasgow Rangers travel to Austria with the Ibrox side needing victory to progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
If Steven Gerrard’s men can win on Thursday, it will not only make up for Rangers’ disappointing display at the weekend but it will also ensure that the Gers reach the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Rapid Vienna sit above the Light Blues in their group and stand in their way this week. Three points is a must if Rangers wish to go through, and after Sunday’s performance, they will need no additional motivation.
Gerrard has frequently rung the changes with his team selection, and it would be no surprise if he mixed things up once again. In fact, we imagine that he may make as many as six changes.
The obvious one comes up front with Alfredo Morelos returning to lead the line in place of Kyle Lafferty. Daniel Candeias is suspended after his controversial red card against Villarreal, so Glenn Middleton may perhaps come in with Ryan Kent completing the front three.
In defence, Gareth McAuley and Borna Barisic could replace Joe Worrall and Andy Halliday. Halliday is extremely unlucky to miss out, and Barisic needs to put in a big performance at both ends of the pitch. Meanwhile, Worrall perhaps needs to be taken out of the firing line after a difficult patch of form for the summer signing.
Scott Arfield was suspended on Sunday, but should come back in in Austria. He was superb against Villarreal last time out, and Rangers will need another influential performance from the Canada international.
The other change in midfield sees Lassana Coulibaly replace Jordan Rossiter. Coulibaly is a regular fixture in the Europa League side and his early-season form suggests that he could make a major impact for the Gers.
