Rangers are reportedly keen on bringing Mahlon Romeo to Ibrox.

Rangers have been busy in the transfer market ever since Steven Gerrard’s arrival, but more additions are certainly expected this summer.

The Gers have brought in 20 new players since Gerrard’s arrival as manager last summer, but one of his most recent ones may begin to look a little strange.

That’s because The Express report that Rangers are hoping to sign Millwall right back Mahlon Romeo, with West Ham United also in the race to sign him.

A quick, attack-minded full back, Romeo is an international defender with Antigua and Barbuda, whilst he already has more than 100 first-team appearances for Millwall at 23.

Romeo could be fine cover for James Tavernier, but that would immediately raise questions about the signing of Matt Polster in the January transfer window.

The American, landed from Chicago Fire, was snapped up on a free transfer, and is primarily seen as cover for Tavernier whilst also being able to play in midfield.

Yet with so many midfielders already at the club, and some to return from loan exits, Polster is unlikely to get in there, and a deal for Romeo could bump him to third choice at right back too.

Of course, Gerrard will have had a plan in mind when he signed Polster, and Romeo may even just be on the radar in case Rangers receive a bid they simply can’t refuse for Tavernier this summer.

If that’s the case, then Polster should be safe, but rumours of another right back being targeted just weeks after his arrival may leave some to feel that the January deal was a little strange.
