Rangers have defied the odds and qualified for the Europa League group stage under Steven Gerrard despite going down to nine men against FC Ufa on Thursday night in Russia – and six Rangers stars reacted on Twitter.

The Gers came into the second leg in Russia after beating Ufa 1-0 at Ibrox thanks to Connor Goldson’s first goal for the club, but were more than aware that they would be up against it in a hostile stadium.

However, they took the lead through an impeccable effort from Ovie Ejaria, scoring his second in as many games with a curling strike from the edge of the area. However, Ufa equalised before half time.

But the first half provided one more twist. Hothead striker Alfredo Morelos was booked for kicking the ball away, before the referee decided to show him another yellow for dissent towards the official.

The second half saw Rangers go down to nine with Jon Flanagan sent off for a second yellow, but they held on to a 1-1 draw. Six Gers stars reacted on Twitter to the win, including substitutes Ross McCrorie and Wes Foderingham.

Rangers await their opponents for the group stage on Friday, but their main attention will have already switched to Sunday’s Old Firm clash against bitter rivals Celtic at Parkhead.

The Gers have failed to beat Brendan Rodgers’ side since gaining promotion back into the top flight, drawing just two of the 11 meeting between the two sides in both the League and Cup competitions.

But with Celtic in disarray after a tumultuous month, Rangers could fancy their chances despite being away from home.
