Kenny Miller has written in his Daily Record column that Rangers star Ryan Kent “needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror” after a run of poor form at Ibrox – but a decent showing in Michael Beale’s first game in charge last Thursday.
Kent, 26, sparkled last season. He was the creative engine room in a Rangers side that reached the Europa League final, producing 22 goal involvements in 46 appearances. This season, he has only managed one goal in his 23 outings.
The ex-Liverpool winger has managed seven assists, the latest coming on Thursday in Beale’s first game. A 3-2 win over Hibernian. But, the consensus is that Kent has not been as good as he was at times last season. His form has dipped.
Whether that is because he is in the final year of his contract and feels that he is leaving soon, who knows. But Miller had criticism for Kent – saying he is not reaching the level of quality he knows Kent can produce in a Rangers shirt.

“Kent wasn’t performing. He needs to have a long, hard look at himself in the mirror. Players need to have pride in their performance. On Thursday, Kent had a different role. He had freedom to wander into central positions. That suits him.”
Miller: Rangers star Kent needs to have a long look in the mirror
Kent has not been good enough this season and while he has had a hand in eight goals in his 23 games, it has not been enough. Just one goal in that time is poor. Kent is capable of so much more and Rangers fans know it.
If Beale and Rangers are going to improve under Beale, then getting the best out of Kent is of utmost importance. Allowing him to drift into the middle and affect the game more often suits Kent. Beale could get the best out of him.
