Rangers’ reported hopes to sign Steven Davis face a test.

Glasgow Rangers’ hopes to sign Steven Davis in January now face a key moment.
Rangers’ hope of landing Davis have been helped by his continued omission from Mark Hughes’ team selections.
Southampton fired Hughes yesterday, leaving Davis facing an uncertain future.
Southampton’s new manager could take a liking to Davis and bring him back into the side.
Or he could decide not to utilise the Northern Ireland international, and make him available for transfer in January.
The Belfast Telegraph reported earlier this season that Rangers were plotting a move for the midfielder in the transfer window.
Until now, nothing has happened to discourage Rangers.

Davis has played only two games in the Premier League this season, as a substitute, for a combined seven minutes of action.
His only role apart from that was in the Carabao Cup, which Southampton were knocked out of last week.
Prior to Hughes being appointed last season, Davis was a regular in Southampton’s squads under Mauricio Pellegrino.
Rangers need to hope that the change of manager does not result in the midfielder becoming a key figure at the Saints once again.
If he remains on the sidelines, their chances of a January swoop to bring Davis back to Ibrox will remain strong.
