Rangers fans most likely haven’t totally forgotten about Carlos Pena, even if they probably want to.

It was only June that the Mexico international made headlines by joining Nexaca on a loan from the Gers.

But fast forward three months and the 28-year-old’s career continues to go downhill at an alarming rate.

Pena, a £2.7 million signing [The Daily Star] by Rangers last summer, joined Cruz Azul on a year-long loan back in January after failing to make the grade in Glasgow.

But the Mexican side – then managed by Pedro Caixinha, who brought him to Ibrox – terminated that deal as early as April, but he isn’t bouncing back to form with his new club at all.

According to Soccerway, Pena has only played 91 minutes for a team that have had 12 games in all competitions this season, and it was spread across three cameo appearances.

At least at Cruz Azul he was coming off the bench fairly regularly, managing 355 minutes of first-team football over 10 games, but his lack of action at Nexaca indicates that the Rangers loanee is continuing to suffer in a big way.
