Glasgow Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria is facing a tough task at Ibrox, but the situation is hardly his fault.

It is early days but Steven Gerrard’s squad appears to be showing one key attribute that is leaving many tipping Rangers for a title challenge in the Scottish Premiership this season: the number of players showing seriously good form is much greater than the number of players that Gerrard is allowed to pick each week.

Nowhere do Rangers boast greater depth at the moment than in the middle of the park. In stark contrast to last season, Gerrard now has a large cluster of in-form options to choose from, and that has meant that one or two are going to be desperately unlucky for the time-being.

And through little fault of his own, it appears that Ovie Ejaria is currently the player facing an uphill battle trying to force his way back into the team in the near future after recently sustaining an injury.

Ejaria has not started since the international break, with his only appearance since the season resumed coming in the 5-1 win against St Johnstone on Sunday.

And given the situation that he is now returning to, it appears that Ejaria is going to be under pressure to make the most of every opportunity he gets for now.

Lassana Coulibaly continues to prove to be one of the signings of the season in the Scottish Premiership following his own return from injury, while Graham Dorrans is also working his way back to full fitness.

Meanwhile, things appear to now be clicking for Scott Arfield, and Gerrard apparently needs no encouragement to laud Andy Haillday. And when you consider that Ross McCrorie was superb at the weekend, it is difficult to see who Ejaria replaces at this current point.

It is a fantastic position for Rangers to be in, and it should only ensure that the midfield continues to be the Gers’ biggest strength. And Gerrard may perhaps be hoping that the potential battle in front of Ejaria brings the very best out of the Liverpool loanee after a very encouraging start to life at Ibrox.
