There’s a few things Celtic and Rangers currently have in common: a city, a division, the need for a new striker.
In the past month alone, the Bhoys have shed three from their ranks – Colin Kazim-Richards, Anthony Stokes and Carlton Cole – while the Gers are said to have switched focus to that department, having all but completed the cosmetic work that was desperately needed in the middle of the park.

It is perhaps reasonable to assume that a player like Danny Ings would feature on both clubs’ wishlists.
His is a name that Rangers fans will be especially familiar with this week, after it emerged they were SkyBet’s odds-on favourites to land the Liverpool striker before September 3.
The Reds, at evens, are the only other club to feature in the Ings category, which is odd anyway, but even more so considering Celtic possess A) Champions League football (in theory), B) reasonable finances (given their recent clear-out), and C) the manager who brought him to Anfield in the first place (Brendan Rodgers).

Does the gambling community know something we don’t? That a Rangers move is practically sewn? That Celtic have bigger fish to fry? Neither of these seem likely.
I can’t help but think that Celtic is the far more feasible shout, if, of course, Ings leaves Liverpool at all, while the recent clearing of the decks at Parkhead – which looks set to continue with Stefan Scepovic – seems like a prelude to something significant.
The capture of Ings, even on loan, would certainly tick that box.
