Rangers are reportedly considering a move to bring Scott Parker in as a replacement for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox – a manager that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said is “incredibly good”, alongside Graham Potter.

Parker, 42, has had an up-and-down time in football management. Already, he has suffered two relegations with Fulham and, a promotion with the Cottagers and then took Bournemouth back into the Premier League last season.

But Parker is out of a job at the moment. That is, despite getting the Cherries promoted. Indeed, a fall-out with the board and a 9-0 loss to Liverpool contributed. So, he is on the lookout for a new job and it could be Rangers, next.

Give Me Sport reporter Dean Jones says he has heard that Parker is a name to keep an eye on. Back in 2021 while at Fulham, Manchester City boss Guardiola raved about the ex-England midfielder, comparing him to Chelsea boss Potter.

“Since day one, they have Fulham have played incredibly well,” Guardiola told Manchester City’s website, when asked about Parker. “They were relegated with Scott at the end of the season and after that, they were promoted.

“In English football, there are incredibly good managers such as Graham Potter at Brighton and Scott at Fulham. Many of them have courage to play. In my fifth season in England, I have never seen the lower teams with this quality.”

Rangers considering Parker: Guardiola said he is incredibly good

Parker would be an exciting appointment. But, he would require backing. His time at Bournemouth ended because he did not get the funds he felt he needed to keep them up. Gary O’Neil has since taken charge, and is impressing.

But the style Parker wants his side to play would adhere to what Rangers fans want. He would bring plenty of talent to Rangers from the Championship and even Premier League. To earn praise from Guardiola, shows how good he is.
