Rangers central defender Nikola Katic has been told he can leave Ibrox before the transfer deadline later this month.

That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Katic has been told his Rangers career is now over.

Rangers want to offload Katic before the transfer window shuts later this month, with director of football Ross Wilson meeting with Katic’s agent last week.

The outcome of the talks was for Katic to leave this summer, with the Croatian now well down the pecking order.

Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson appear to be Steven Gerrard’s four main centre backs this season.

That leaves Katic on the outside looking in, and his three-year spell in Glasgow could now be coming to an end.

The 24-year-old joined Rangers from Slaven Belupo in his native Croatia back in 2018, and has made 59 appearances for the Gers.

Mere weeks after his arrival, Steven Gerrard stated that he ‘absolutely loves’ Katic, making him a key part of the Rangers side.

His big moment came in 2019, scoring the winner against Celtic at Celtic Park, giving Rangers their first away win at Celtic since 2010.

Last summer, Katic suffered a major knee injury and missed the whole of the 2020-21 season, and Rangers have seemingly moved on without him in that time.

There isn’t long left for Katic to find a new club, but Italian side Spezia and a host of European sides are believed to be keen as the defender faces up to life away from Rangers.
